Decentraland (MANA)
Decentraland is software that aims to encourage a global network of users to operate a shared virtual world with the help of tools and support provided by the community.
Decentraland users can buy and sell virtual real estate while exploring, interacting and playing games in this developer-programmed world. Over time, the platform has evolved to implement interactive applications, payments and communication between users.
Operations in Decentraland are governed by two different types of tokens. These are:
LAND - non-convertible token (NFT type) used to determine ownership of plots representing digital real estate. MANA - a cryptocurrency that facilitates LAND shopping, as well as virtual goods and services used in Decentraland.
Changes to the Decentraland software are implemented through a set of smart contacts based on the Ethereum blockchain, which allow participants with MANA to vote on possible upgrades, land auctions and grants for new investments.
